Internet Law

siu say ngor

No, not some Interpol initiative to control our last true bastion of free speech. Internet Law is actually a Hong Kong Kung-Fu star from the 70s. The 52-year-old actor, who's actually cast as the joker in TVB screwball comedies, was presented a lifetime achievement award in Philadelphia last year for his performances in films back in the 70s. Turns out, our veteran comedians is an icon to kung fu fans abroad as "The Venom". Visiting the States for the first time last year to receive the award, Law actually shocked his fans beacuse many thought he was dead. In fact, one fo his fans - who turned out to be a movie producer - was so impressed with him that Law is set to direct an upcoming action film.

So what's with the name? Law's Chinese name is Law Mong, with "Mong" being of the same pronounciation as the Cantonese word for "the internet". Law says it's not his real English name, though he once called himself Turno because he moves so quickly. We can't decide which name is weirder.

-- "Weird Hong Kong" from HK Magazine No. 735
